Funniest Thing for March

Tell ITN about the funniest thing that ever happened to you while traveling in a foreign country. There are no restrictions on length. This month’s winner is NORMAN L. ROGERS of San Anselmo, CA:

Four of us were dining one night in Italy at a restaurant in Greve, Tuscany. We are very experienced in deciphering Italian menus and had a menu translator as backup. It was our second visit to this restaurant, which has an exceptionally friendly staff.

There was one item on the menu we could not translate, and it was not in our menu guide. We asked the waitress in our limited Italian what this item was. She did not know the word in English, so she called for assistance from the proprietor. He could not translate the word either.

At this point they called over another waitress who was better with English. She looked at the word on the menu, looked at us, looked at the word again and then said, “Bambi.”
