• Using the website www.flyhahn.com and flying into Frankfurt-Hahn Airport on Ryanair, I found this incredibly great hotel deal: €35 (near $47) per night, single (or €40 with breakfast), at Hotel-Pizzeria Venezia (Niedersohrener Str. 14, D-55487 Sohren, Germany; phone +49 [0] 6543/98 88-0, fax 98-88 38 or visit www.hotel-pizzeria-venezia.de).
The hotel is about eight minutes from the airport. Call the hotel upon arrival; they’ll pick you up and bring you back at no charge. The staff could not have been more helpful or kind.
Nice room with shower, hair dryer, TV and mini-bar. Breakfast included cold meats, cheeses, fruit, rolls, muesli, coffee, tea, yogurt and soft-boiled eggs.
• Frankfurt-Hahn is a small airport, not to be confused with Frankfurt International. You can take a bus from right next to the airport to many places in the area. I took the bus to Luxembourg for the weekend.
Www.flyhahn.com is the best website I have ever worked with as far as finding practical travel information from a particular airport. Through this website I was able to find this hotel and a hotel in Luxembourg and buy my bus ticket to/from Luxembourg.

3-star, very attractive former hacienda. Operated by friendly people.
Pleasant heated rooms. Abundant hot water. Nonresident rate (residents pay an additional tax), about $50 single, $58 double, Continental breakfast included.
Restaurant menu is limited but food good quality. Inexpensive laundry service.

This is a wonderful estancia. I paid $80 a night for my Feb. 10-18 stay, which included all meals with wine — and a typical Uruguayan barbecue. Swimming and horseback riding also included.

• Siam@Siam Design Hotel & Spa (865 Rama 1 Rd., Wang Mai, Patumwan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand; phone +66 [0] 2217 3000, fax 3030 or visit www.siamatsiam.com).
We paid $80 to stay in this elegant hotel that before long will be in the $200-$300 range. The price included taxes and an excellent breakfast.
In this hotel the floors are of polished, patterned concrete. Lots of wood and color used. The architect had complete control of the design, right down to the cosmetics in the bathroom.
