Kandersteg apartment
My husband, Mike, and son, Scott, and I stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment in the house Roduner-Hus (Dorf, CH-3718 Kandersteg, SWITZERLAND; phone + 41 [0] 33 675 1053, www.adamsalpineeden.com/roduner), Sept. 18-26, 2008.
The location was perfect, just a 5-minute walk from the co-op for groceries and a 10-minute walk from the train station. The owner, Franziska Ryter, was a real delight and speaks English. She picked us up from the train station, took us to the apartment and explained everything thoroughly.
The apartment was on the second floor, but there were only about six steps up to it. It was one of the best apartments we have ever stayed in, with all the little touches that make for a good stay.
It was very clean and very bright and well lit. In addition to the usual comforters, there were extra blankets. Each room had radiators, so we were able to control the heat. It had a nice balcony.
The bathroom was large and bright, with lots of places to set shampoo, makeup, etc. There were plenty of towels, a hair dryer, lots of hot water and a heated towel bar for drying hand laundry.
The kitchen was very well equipped and had plenty of linen, an iron, extra lightbulbs and plenty of garbage bags. There was a 3-burner stove and oven and a medium-size refrigerator.
We paid CHF1,050 ($913) for nine nights,
On departure day, our son needed to get to Zürich for an early departure. Since Kandersteg is no longer on the main train line, the only way was to take a cab to Frutigen and catch the train there. Franziska graciously offered to take him to Frutigen at 5:30 a.m.
