Convenient in Munich
My husband, Bob, and I spent five nights at hotelmüller München (Fliegenstrasse 4, D-80337, Munich, Germany; phone 0049 89 2323860) in May ’09. What a find!
In a perfect location, it’s just around the corner from all forms of mass transit and a 10-minute walk from the Marienplatz. We took the metro from the airport.
We booked through gtahotels.com (New York, NY; 888/210-2543). Our double room on the second floor cost $140 a night, with breakfast.
The room, while a bit small, was large enough for us. The bathroom had a tub/shower combination with plenty of surface space for our stuff. Both the bedroom and bathroom were very modern and clean. Our friends had a larger room on the fifth floor. Its very large bathroom had a walk-in shower.
The hotel is on a very quiet side street. There was no A/C, which might be a problem when the weather is very warm.
The excellent breakfast buffet included bacon or sausage plus eggs, meats, cheeses, wonderful breads and rolls, pastries, cereals, fresh and dried fruits, juices, coffee and tea. The breakfast room was so pretty, comfortable and full of sunshine that we lingered longer than usual each morning.
The staff was wonderful, providing answers graciously and with good humor and fulfilling our every request.
We got around Munich on foot and by mass transit. We bought a 3‑day CityTourCard (www.city tourcard.com) in a machine at the metro station. It allowed up to five persons unlimited travel within the city limits. The card was good for the S-bahn, U-bahn, tram and buses, and it cost only €29 ($42).
A tour we enjoyed enormously was “Lenny’s Free Bike Tour,” through Discover Munich (phone 089 42024505). As the name implies, the city tour is totally free, including the use of the bike, although tips were greatly appreciated.
This was a great way to get acquainted with Munich. Our guide was Conner, who was a lot of fun and very knowledgeable. We met at the Marienplatz.
The biking pace was slow, and we stopped several times along the way. Our three-hour tour included an hour in the Chinese Tower Beer Garden. We took the 4 p.m. tour, but there was one at 11:30 a.m. also.
