Deadly floods in Pakistan

In northwest Pakistan, incessant monsoon rains in late July led to the worst flooding there since 1929. At least 1,100 people were killed and over one million displaced. Houses, bridges and roads were washed away, livestock drowned and crops were destroyed.

Hardest hit were the districts Charsada, Kohistan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Shangla and Swat in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and, in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Upper Neelam Valley. 

The week before, flash floods killed about 70 people and drove out 100,000 in Baluchistan province in the southwest.
