Faces of Romania

Romania’s many faces were readily accessible and wonderful to see during our 2-week visit, Sept. 2-16, 2013. The cost of the trip was €4,800 (near $6,520), which included accommodations, breakfasts, all driving and guiding, airport/hotel transfers and all museum admission fees.

We booked our trip through Medieval Tours (Piata Romana 9, scara C, ap. 34, sector 1, Bucharest, Romania; phone 0040 21 326 62 68) six months in advance, in order to work out our itinerary, but that may not have been necessary. All of the hotels in which we stayed were very comfortable and centrally located and had en suite baths.

We saw the royal, communist, historical, religious and musical core of Bucharest as well as the Roman ruins of Histria and the resort Constanța on the Black Sea.

We also visited the walled Saxon cities of Brașov, Sighișoara and Sibiu, the unique glorious painted monasteries of Bucovina and the tiny yet tall, ancient, wooden churches of Maramureș — all while in the able hands and comfortable SUV belonging to Eduard Popescu of Medieval Tours. Popescu was also the one who helped us arrange our itinerary.
