Attacks in Kenya

The US government continues to receive information about potential terrorist threats aimed at Kenya. In the past 1½ years, there have been numerous attacks involving shootings, grenades or other explosive devices. About 53 of these occurred in the northeast, mainly in Dadaab, Wajir, Garissa and Mandera counties. Five were in Mombasa.
On Jan. 2, 2014, 10 people were wounded in a grenade attack on a nightclub in Diani, a resort area on the south coast. On March 23, three gunmen opened fire on a church service in Likoni, in the Mombasa area, killing six and wounding 18.
Over 1½ years, 15 grenade and improvised explosive device attacks have occurred in Nairobi. In a March 31 grenade attack, six people were killed in the suburb Eastleigh.
