Last year’s article about the Bishop’s Palace in Wells, England (July ’14, pg. 56), reminded me of my visit to that city’s Cathedral of St. Andrew.

As a departure from typical Gothic architecture, the cathedral contains an ornate “X” between the apse and nave — the most impressive one I’ve seen in over 40 years of travel.

In my 1973 album, I found a slide I took of the interior of the cathedral. I took it while on a tour of Britain, prior to my abandoning slides in favor of prints.

This was from a bygone era of group travel, since many tours now, unfortunately, have eliminated gems such as Wells because of time limitations.
