An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck central Myanmar, near the ancient temple city of Bagan, on Aug. 24, killing at least four people. At least 66 temples in Bagan were damaged, but all remained standing, with no other significant damage to buildings or infrastructure reported in the country.
The tremor was felt as far away as Thailand, India and Bangladesh. In the latter, 20 people were injured in the capital, Dhaka, as they rushed out of their building in a panic.
