Keep In contact with your valuables

In the article “Highlights from a Week in London Plus a Transatlantic Crossing on the QM2,” the author commented on the unfortunate event of his wife’s wallet being stolen from the backpack/purse hanging on the back of her chair in a pub (July ’16, pg. 21). He said this “reaffirmed the value of keeping a separate record of all bank card numbers and customer service telephone numbers when traveling.”

It’s good to keep separate records, but it’s more important, both when traveling and when in the US, to NEVER hang anything of value on the back of a chair in a restaurant. I always keep my valuables either on my body or in a fanny pack. If I have a backpack or purse, it sits between my knees and feet.

Living in New York City, I’m hyperaware of keeping my valuables safe. I always shudder when I see a purse hanging on the back of a chair or swung carelessly on a shoulder.
