Protests in Venezuela

More than one million people, both against and in favor of the  presidency of Nicolás Maduro, who is facing a recall referendum, assembled in Caracas, Venezuela, on Sept. 1. In the days prior, three opposition leaders were arrested. 

Venezuela currently has one of the highest crime rates in the world, with regular shortages of food, basic goods and electricity.
