With winds of up to 85 miles per hour, tropical cyclone Vardah made landfall on India’s southeast coast, near the city of Chennai, on Dec. 12, killing at least seven people. Before the storm, more than 15,000 people were evacuated from the area.
Fallen trees caused widespread power outages, and some flooding was reported, but damage to buildings and infrastructure was minimal.
