Wildfires in the Riviera region of southeastern France, as well as on the French island of Corsica, burned more than 12 square miles of forest in late July. In Bormes-les-Mimosas, Var department, more than 12,000 people were evacuated before that fire was brought under control on July 27. Another fire nearby, in Artigues, was contained the next day.
