London stops Uber

On Sept. 22, the transport regulator of London rejected Uber’s application of a new license to operate in the city, meaning that when Uber’s previous license expired on Sept. 30, the company would no longer be allowed to operate within the city. Uber is a popular ride-sharing service with which users use a smartphone app to hire local drivers in place of taxis.

As of press time, Uber was appealing that decision and was being allowed to continue to operate during the appeals process. There are more than 40,000 Uber drivers in London.
