‘Lone wolf’ attacks in Europe

On Aug. 10, a man identified as an Algerian national drove his car into a group of soldiers in a Paris suburb, injuring six. The man was captured by police near Boulogne. The incident is being described as a terrorist act, but the man, who is a legal resident of France, has no known connections to any terrorist group.
On Aug. 25 in Brussels, Belgium, a man attacked a group of soldiers with a knife, injuring two. He was shot and killed by security forces. Belgian authorities described the incident as a terrorist attack. The man was identified as a foreign-born Belgian citizen with no known ties to terrorist groups.
