Sierra Leone landslide

Just outside of Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, a deadly mudslide occurred on Sugar Loaf mountain in the early morning of Aug. 14, killing at least 500 people, with more than 800 still missing from the mudslide and associated flooding. The slide left almost 3,000 people homeless.

As of press time, torrential rain was still affecting Freetown, causing flooding in the streets and damage to houses and infrastructure.
