Strolling in Stockholm

Following a May 2017 visit to Russia (Jan. ’18, pg. 6), we flew airBaltic (www.airbaltic.com) from St. Petersburg to Stockholm, Sweden.

From Stockholm Arlanda Airport, we rode the Arlanda Express train to Stockholm Central Station, then took a taxi to our hotel. Booking the Arlanda Express early provides big savings.

We spent two days in the center of Stockholm, an extremely expensive city. Our room in the 3-star NOFO Hotel & Wine Bar (Tjarhovsgatan 11, Stockholm, Sweden; phone +46 8 503 112 00, www.nofohotel.se), which we reserved through Booking.com, cost $210 per night, including breakfast.

This small, quirky hotel, located in Södermalm, is only a 10- to 15-minute walk from Gamla stan (Old Town). The hotel had a wine bar, where we attended an outdoor wine-tasting event one evening — a lively, enjoyable experience.

Strolling over the bridge to Gamla stan, we wandered through the cobblestone streets of the very picturesque archipelago, pausing at cafés and also having lunch.

It was a relaxing, slow-down couple of days prior to our long flight home.
