Deadly South Asia floods

Monsoon rains caused flooding in Nepal, India and Bangladesh in mid-July, killing at least 153 people and displacing almost six million others. In northeastern India, the state of Assam experienced the worst of the flooding, leaving thousands who were not able to evacuate stranded without food or clean water.

Monsoon season in South Asia typically lasts from June to September, with catastrophic floods a regular occurrence.
