On central Victor-Hugo Street in Lyon, France, a parcel bomb exploded outside of a bakery on May 24, injuring 13 people. Witnesses saw a man who was wearing a face mask and riding a bicycle place the package shortly before it exploded. Authorities described it as an act of terrorism and said the bomb was designed to injure rather than kill.
A couple of days after the bombing, four people were arrested on charges of being involved in the incident. The man suspected of placing the bomb, identified from security footage, is an Algerian computer sciences student with no criminal record. His mother and younger brother are among the other three suspects.
