Tour historic Poland mine
In the town of Tarnowskie Góry, Upper Silesia, Poland, a silver mine with sections dating back to the 15th century is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visits can be made only on a guided 90-minute tour (available in English).
Starting in the mining museum, tour members are taken 133 feet underground down the Angel shaft, then continue walking on a mile-long path (partly in a corridor with a 4½-foot-high ceiling) between the Angel, Viper and God Bless shafts, taking a boat ride through a flooded section.
Tours in English must be booked at least two days in advance on location (81 Szczęść Boże Street 42-600, Tarnowskie Góry) and cost PLN52 (near $13.25), adult, or PLN45, senior over 65. Open hours vary with the season (closed Mondays, Jan.-March). For info, visit kopalniasrebra.pl/en or call +48 32 285 49 96.
