We took OAT's trip to South Africa last fall and had a wonderful time. It was only South Africa and did not include other countries in Africa. It had a lot of variety including a small amount of time in Johannesburg and Soweto, two game parks and time on the garden route and Capetown as well. We had a great guide and a group on only 14. I felt it was a good value
I did the smarTour of South Africa several years ago and thought it offered very good value for money. The hotels and local operator were fine. The downside was the full busload of 40 or so travelers.
If you search this message board, you'll discover that smarTours has provoked a lot of heated discussion. Stil, if you sort through it, you'll get a good sense of smarTours' pros and cons.
OAT's Ultimate Africa trip is excellent. It visits Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Wonderfully comfortable safari camps with great guides and food.
Our South Africa trip a few years ago was through Odysseys Unlimited. Their best selling point is that it is small-group travel -15 people. We toured around Johannesburg, the Garden Coast and Capetown before heading to Namibia for a few days, and then on the Botswana for safari-type drives. And to Zimbabwe for Victoria Falls - in fact we stayed in the Victoria Falls Hotel. All in all, it was a very nice trip and we enjoyed it very much. It was all first class, no camps out in the jungle or anything like that. And that was just what we wanted.

Traveling in August 2015 to South Africa and Victoria Falls with Smartours. Any recommendations on health precautions mandatory or recommended shots. Thanks.
