Has anyone used a company, local in Ethiopia or otherwise, that they were happy with. It seems very hit or miss when googling for reviews. I don't want to have a bad experience in "the hottest place on earth" Thanks.

I did a custom tour with Travel Ethiopia (www.travelethiopia.com) a few years ago and they were excellent. They developed an itinerary based on my interests and abilities. They provided an excellent guide and a good vehicle. The company is based in Addis Ababa and have been in business over 20 years.

I had done the northern route (Churches,etc) with a group; Travel Ethiopia planned a 10 day trip to the Omo Valley. I was on my own and cost was reasonable.

I did a private, historic northern circuit itinerary with Awaze Tours (www.awazetours.com) during the first week in March 2017. The company has fixed itineraries for both group and private tours. They will also do customized itineraries. I highly recommend them based on my experience. The itinerary was well-planned, but it was flexible based on my requests, physical ability, and interests. The guides were interesting, informative, helpful, and accommodating. I was lodged in nice hotels (three-star) with all meals included on an ala carte basis.
