<p>My wife and I will be spending 3 nights in Athens in mid-October prior to joining a cruise.&nbsp; Would appreciate any suggestions as to transportation from the airport to downtown and also suggestions for reasonable hotels.</p><p>Thanks for your help</p>

We did an overnight in the Ava Hotel and Suites in the Plaka.  We had a great view of the Acropolis and were a short drive from Prius.  See www.avahotel.gr for additional details.  We used www.greecetaxi.gr for airport pickup to hotel and next day from hotel to Prius cruise terminal.  They can arrange tours if you like.  We found them to be very professional and spoke English.

We did exactly the same thing in May of 2012.  Same hotel, same taxi.  Absolutely the best.

We have reservations with Electra Palace Hotel, Plaka for several nites next May.  Check booking.com for rates which includes breakfast.  Roof top pool with view of Acropolis.  I use booking.com a lot -- always check for free cancellation, perhaps breakfast included.Our transportation from the airport and eventually to the port is being arranged by www.travel2greece.com -- they've arranged an overnight sightseeing trip to Delphi/Meteora, flight to/from Santorini plus 2 nites on the island, city sightseeing tour -- all private cars.
