one day guide in Barcelona

We are a group of six who would like to hire a driver and car for one day in Barcelona. We will be getting off a cruise shop and know our rooms will not be ready. So we want to arrange our own tour. Pickup at the pier and drop off late afternoon at the hotel. Any one have a guide they can recommend and the cost if you have it. Thanks, Lisa

I realize this is not what you asked but we just got back from Barcelona cruise and got to know the city pretty well in three extra days. We thought the Hop On Hop Off busses that leave directly in front of the cruise port provided a very good overview of this sprawling city, if you can store your luggage while you take the bus tour. Or see if you can take in on the HOHO with you and keep it in the lower deck and then "hop off" when you get near your hotel. Or go to your hotel and leave your luggage with the front desk and take the HOHO tour from someplace close by.

Wonderful city and it does sprawl so having this sort of major overview was a great way to get oriented and then went back on our own to the wonderfully walkable parts of town. We stayed in a hotel near Plaza Cataluyna and it could not have been a better location for everything.

There are two different companies that run these hop-on hop off bus tours and they seemed fairly similar in routes and prices. As with most hop-on hop offs we always stay on for the whole route and rarely if ever use it to hop on and hop off. It is just convenient, narration is good and the open air buses give great views.

I went to the official Barcelona Tourism page, http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/ , and found only one, Barcelona Bus Turístic. Their web site is http://www.barcelonabusturistic.cat/en/home.  Looks like a good bus, we plan on using it when we go later in the year.
