Get up and go

Since my retirement in 1999, I have taken 10 trips to Europe every year. My frequent trips to Italy have each been to different areas, but I return often to London, Paris, Rome, Prague, Vienna and Amsterdam and have been in those cities in various months. Aside from June through August, I find them all full of delights and pleasures, the crowds notwithstanding (just get to the back streets).

In answer to the question “When is the best time to go?”, my answer has always been “Whenever you want to!”

Every country has different areas which appeal for any number of reasons. Theaters, museums and natural or man-made attractions are available in great variety year-round.

Regardless of the month, I am always struck by the great number of tourists and travelers in cities and villages. The high season seems to be whenever I travel!

As for the weather, I heard somebody say, “There is no such thing as bad weather; there is only inappropriate clothing.”

Needless to say, I feel that spring and autumn may offer the “friendliest” weather in Europe. However, there is no bad time to travel. And I prove it by traveling 10 times a year!
