We stayed in an outstanding B&B in South Rustico, Prince Edward Island, in April ’12. The Barachois Inn (Prince Edward Island, Canada; 800/963-2194) was a splurge, at about $240 per night, but a memorable one.

We stayed in a building built near, and in the same style of, the original inn. There was a large, comfortable living area and a bed area with a refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom had both a shower and a Jacuzzi. There was also a deck.

The owners were friendly...

My husband, Mike, and I stayed in Brittany at Gîte Lapin Kerguedalen (Kerguedalen, 56160 Ploërdut, Bretagne, France; phone +33 [0] 297394228). During planning, e-mails were answered promptly, and the owners accepted PayPal, which makes things easier. We paid €400 (near $510) for eight nights, Sept. 23-30, 2012, and were sent detailed directions to find the property.

This place was fantastic! The owners, Inge and Remco, were a joy. They live on the property and were always available...

Castello di Miramare, near Trieste, Italy. Photo: Hill

Having paid $24 for a first-class one-way ticket, I was enjoying a relaxing train ride in Italy with no worries about when and where I was supposed to get off because my destination, Trieste, was the end of the line. The station was on one level, as in Venice, where I boarded, so there were no stairs to deal with, either.

With directions from a kind older lady, I turned right upon exiting the station. Do not turn left if you have luggage or you will have to go down a long flight of...

Swimming pool at Club Bali Hai Hotel, Moorea.

I made my 24th annual visit to the island of Moorea in French Polynesia, March 3-31, 2012. Tahiti and its neighbors in this archipelago are the loveliest islands I’ve visited in the South Pacific.

Cook’s Bay on Moorea is the most beautiful tropical sight in the world. It’s framed by 2,000- to 3,000-foot mountains covered with a vibrant green jungle of flowering trees. The best things about this tropical Eden is there are no snakes or wild animals, and sea breezes seem to keep...

I read the subscriber’s article “Searching for Wildlife in Three of India’s Top Tiger Reserves” (Aug. ’12, pg. 44), in which the writer described his disappointment. About four years ago I went to the same parks in India but in reverse order, although, except in Kaziranga, I stayed in different camps. I saw seven different tigers, one for 20 minutes as he walked ahead of and behind us.

Outside of a place like the Tiger Kingdom in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where the animals are in...

The Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende offers a number of cultural events every week, as my husband and I found in February and March 2012 (Nov. ’12, pg. 14).

Anything sponsored by Pro Musica, which offers classical music at its finest, will be first rate. All performances are held at St. Paul’s Church (Callzada del Cardo #6), and tickets cost 100, 150 or 250 pesos (near $7.75, $11.50 or $19). We buy the 100-peso tickets because the seats are folding chairs rather than church pews...

During a late-spring tour to Eastern Europe with Grand Circle Travel (Boston, MA; 800/221-2610) in 2011, my husband, Mike, and I visited the town of Bakodpuszta, where we were entertained by Hungarian cowboys at a horse show. We were awed by their whip-cracking performance!

MARY HOLLIS Moline, IL

Six of us flew into London and took a cruise out of Dover in August ’12. Having never been to London, I spent quite a bit of time researching transportation.

An acquaintance in London suggested ExpressWays (103 Colney Hatch Ln., Muswell Hill, London, N10 1LR, U.K.; phone 08456 12 12 12, fax 020 8883 6142). I exchanged e-mails with and called ExpressWays to make the reservations. There were no upfront charges and we paid the drivers in cash.

The charge from Heathrow Airport to...
