My husband, Norman, and I worked with Arun at Third Eye Travel (Fremont, CA; 800/456-3393) to set up a personalized, 15-day tour of Vietnam and Cambodia, Feb. 11-25, 2010.

We felt that the price was very reasonable, considering everything we got to participate in. The land cost was $2,159 each; internal airfare and visas cost extra. All our hotels were four-star, with breakfasts included.

Every detail of the adventure went off exactly as planned. We were met at each airport by...

To journey to Lhasa and continue on to Everest Base Camp to see the mighty Himalayan massif up close was a longtime dream of ours. For my husband, Larry, and me, this dream came true with our terrific guide in Tibet, Samdup Gyal (“Sam”), and our excellent, safe driver, Choeden.

We traveled to Tibet, May 12-23, 2010, with arrangements made by Third Eye Travel (Fremont, CA; 800/456-3393); the local company was Tibet YongDru Adventure.

Our 19-day trip, which included an extension...

My wife, Judy, and I enjoyed the following restaurants in Switzerland in September ’10.

In LUZERN, along the canal leading to Lake Lucerne, we had lunch with two friends at the charming Restaurant Rathaus Brauerei (Unter der Egg 2, CH-6004 Luzern; phone +41 41 410 52 57). For four persons, the luncheon special and beer cost CHF125 (about $131).

In AROSA we ate lunch at Posthotel Arosa’s Restaurant Pöstli (Oberseepromenade CH 7050 Arosa; phone +41 [0] 81 378 5000), overlooking...

Many people believe that someone over 70 cannot rent a car in the UK, but having this policy or not is up to each car rental company. At the age of 82, in 2009, I rented a car there from a major car rental company; I believe it was Avis. (A friend in England found out for me which companies had no age limit. I am too unskilled at the computer to do this for myself.)

If they offer you an upgrade to a larger vehicle at no extra cost, my advice is not to accept. Some of the prettiest...

Having read of the purchase of a 240-dollar rail ticket from London to Glasgow with Virgin Trains (Sept. ’10, pg. 46), I thought readers would like to know how to purchase tickets at a more reasonable rate.

I travel between London and Glasgow or Edinburgh more than eight times each year. I am in standard class sometimes but in first class frequently and always with a reserved seat. At the end of August 2010, I paid £34 (about $55) for first class on Virgin between London and Glasgow...

I agree with those who reassure travelers that driving here in the UK — on the left-hand side of the road — is not too difficult (“Embrace Left-side Driving,” March ’10, pg. 52). I would add one warning concerning our roundabouts: whilst the official line is to give way to traffic on the roundabout, the practice is that we give way to traffic approaching from the right.

Hence, if you are stationary at the entrance to a roundabout and see someone approaching from your right, whether or...

Regarding the payment of bills while traveling (Dec. ’10, pg. 12), my husband, Foster, and I have for 10 years been clients of Paytrust. For the sum of $10.95 per month, we are currently having about 15 bills regularly paid by them.

You can direct Paytrust to 1) “pay $XX on the XXth of each month to so-and-so” (good for mortgages, car payments, etc), 2) indicate that when “this bill is received, pay total amount” (or the minimum or whatever you choose) “so many days before due date” (...
