Bronze tiger in front of the old Oslo Central train station

While traveling from Boston to Warsaw, May 23-24, 2016, I had a 7-hour 15-minute stopover in Oslo/Gardermoen, Norway, during which I visited Frogner Park to see the Vigeland sculptures.

The Oslo Airport in Gardermoen is modern and well laid out. Providing good ground transport options, a train station connects the airport with the city of Oslo to the south and also with points to the north.

Departing from adjoining platforms, two trains take you into central Oslo. The state-...

The Republic of Moldova is a place I long wanted to visit, as it’s near my usual destination of Romania. On a solo trip, May 3-15, 2016, I began in Bucharest, Romania, where I had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Boutique Hotel (Negustori 1B, Bucharest 2, Romania; phone +40 31 425 62 30, http://grandboutique hotel.ro), located behind the National Theatre Bucharest on a lovely residential street.

The hotel, a restored private villa, hadn’t been open long. It had 19...

Jim Johnson’s article “Biking the Backroads — What a Wonderful Way to Travel!” (June ’16, pg. 22) is right on. His descriptions on the various types of tours are excellent.

My husband, Robert, and I have taken many biking trips in Europe. We’ve taken fully guided tours with Hindriks Bicycle Tours, supported tours with Vermont Bike Tours and what I’ll call semisupported tours with Bike Tours Direct. All have pros and cons, of course.

We...

From the Editor of ITN — Peter Schuetz of Shelby, North Carolina, wrote to ITN about a tour of western Canada and the Rocky Mountains, originally scheduled for June 27-July 5, 2015, that he took with his fiancée and a group of seniors.

Advertised and operated by the tour company Cosmos (5301 S. Federal Circle, Littleton, CO 80123), the 9-day/8-night tour was booked through the travel agency White Star Tours (26 E. Lancaster Ave., Reading, PA 19607) by a group leader, “Ms....

Whenever I’ve wanted to go to an out-of-the-way place, I’ve relied on Adventures Abroad (2148-20800 Westminster Hwy., Richmond, B.C., V6V 2W3, Canada; 800/665-3998, www.adventures-abroad.com) to take me there.

A trip I took with them May 14-June 6, 2015, “Indian Ocean Islands,” showed me Seychelles, Mauritius, Reunion, Madagascar, Mayotte and Comoros. For transport, the company hired local boats, including the sailboat we used to go around Seychelles.

I wanted to visit Nicaragua but found it difficult to find any tours that went there. I finally discovered an 8-day tour, “Wonders of Nicaragua,” through the travel department of the American Automobile Association, or AAA (travel.aaa.com). It was run by Alexander+Roberts (Keene, NH; 800/221-2216, www.alexanderroberts.com).

The cost for a single was $3,099 ($2,699 per person, double). Airfare and insurance cost extra. The tour included breakfasts, five lunches and, if air...

My husband, David, and I had an excellent experience on our March 2016 trip in Jordan using Go2Jordan.INFO (www.your-guide-to-aqaba-jordan.com).

Our first contact with the company was with Eszter Papai (eszter@your-guide-to-aqaba-jordan.com). She thanked us for our inquiry and passed along some information about Jordan, including a series of travel tips for the area. She also told us they had an English-speaking guide, Zsuzsanna (Suzan) Gabor.

Prior to departing the US, we each...

Kura Hulanda Village square, Curaçao.

Most travelers to Curaçao are attracted by its white-sand beaches, interesting history and rich cultural tapestry. When my wife, Fyllis, and I visited in January 2016, we also discovered a very different gem of a museum that, alone, would make a trip to this Southern Caribbean island worthwhile.

The Sonesta Kura Hulanda Village & Spa (Langestraat 8, [Otrobanda], Willemstad, Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles; phone +599 9 434 7700, www.kurahulanda.com/en) is an inviting and intriguing...
